Our Philosophy on the usage of tablets and screen time:
At Little Clover, we are intentional about not using screens or tablets in our preschool program because we believe in nurturing the development of young minds through more meaningful, hands-on experiences. It is crucial to limit screen time in preschool-aged children because their brains and bodies are still developing, and excessive screen use can hinder critical growth in key areas. Young children need opportunities for physical movement, face-to-face social interactions, and hands-on experiences that help build their cognitive, emotional, and motor skills. Research has shown that excessive screen time can contribute to issues such as eye strain, difficulty focusing, disrupted sleep patterns, and even delays in language and social development. By avoiding tablets and screen time, we allow children to engage in activities that spark their imaginations, encourage creativity, and enhance their ability to communicate and problem-solve through interactive methods. This kind of development lays a solid foundation for lifelong learning and emotional well-being.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) emphasizes the importance of limiting screen time for preschool-aged children to support healthy development. children aged 2 to 5, the AAP recommends limiting screen use to no more than one hour per day of high-quality programming, with shared viewing to enhance learning and interaction.
Excessive screen time in young children has been associated with various developmental concerns. A study published in JAMA Pediatrics found that higher tablet use among preschoolers was linked to increased expressions of anger and tantrums.
By adhering to these guidelines and limiting screen exposure, we can promote healthier cognitive, emotional, and social development in young children.
